Summer NAMM 2021: Gibson will be making a thunderous new addition to its Original Collection series this year: the Non-Reverse Thunderbird bass.

Gibson first announced the distinctive bass guitar at this January’s Winter NAMM Show and has now shared more details on its specifications.

It features a mahogany body and neck, as well as a rosewood fingerboard with 20 medium jumbo frets. Its electronics consist of two T-Bird pickups, high-output humbuckers loaded with ceramic magnets, routed to independent volume controls and a master tone.

Hardware features include a three-point adjustable bridge, Hipshot Ultralite tuning machines and a Graph Tech nut. Its iconic look is completed by a three-ply white pickguard with the Thunderbird graphic. It will be available in three colours: Inverness Green, Sparkling Burgundy and Pelham Blue.

There’s no word yet on when the model will hit stores this year and how much it will cost. The Non-Reverse Thunderbird will be the third bass guitar in the Original Collection series, following the SG bass and Thunderbird.

Other announcements Gibson made today (15 July) were for the Custom Shop’s 1958 Korina Explorer and Flying V electrics, artist models for Tony Iommi, Jerry Cantrell and Nathaniel Rateliff, as well as the Slash Epiphone Collection.
