NAMM 2021: Taylor Guitars, along with over 50 of its artist roster, have collaborated on a new original song entitled I Know What Love Is, to be released today (21 January).

The song has been put together with the goal of raising money for those hit hard by the ongoing pandemic. All of the proceeds from I Know What Love Is will go towards MusiCares, a charity that provides support for artists with mental and physical health support, addiction recover,y, hearing clinics and help for those impacted by COVID-19.

Taylor artists will also be giving an exclusive live performance of the song over at the site for NAMM’s Believe In Music Week, taking place at 9.30 AM PST on 21 January. Take a look here.

I Know What Love Is was written by Keith Goodwin and co-produced by Taylor Guitars’ Jay Parkin. Goodwin said of the song’s writing: “During lockdown one of the most challenging things for me was trying to adapt to not having my friends around to play music with.

“This project really helped keep me focused on making music when everything else in life had changed so drastically. I’m grateful for this opportunity to connect and collaborate with such great artists and for a good cause. We are all lucky to be able to share our love of music together.”

The song wasn’t initially going to feature so many artists, but Parkin realised early on in the mixing process that the song could be made even bigger: “We were shooting for a Hey Jude meets We Are the World vibe,” he said, and described his reaction upon reaching out to dozens of Taylor artists: “The song itself felt good, but this was always about supporting musicians and bringing people together. Once we started reaching out to the music community and began to get the parts back, we started to see how the pieces all fit together to create an anthem of hope for 2021.”

The artists featured on their song recorded over 200 tracks in total from their home studios, and that’s on top of their parts for the music video they sent across. You can see the resulting home-filmed video on Taylor’s website here.

Singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, one of the 54 artists who contributed to the song, said of the song’s goals: “So many brilliantly talented crew, venue teams and artists have been financially crippled by the arrival of COVID-19, and hopefully we can ease some of that pain a little through MusiCares.”

I Know What Love Is is out now on streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify, and as mentioned Taylor Artists are performing the song live on NAMM’s Believe In Music TV here. You can also purchase the song on iTunes.
