TheGigRig’s new G3 introduces expanded MIDI support, a screen, extra presets and much, much more

TheGigRig has launched its latest flagship series of switchers, the G3 and the G3 Atom. This latest generation of switchers allows for extremely in-depth control off an entire pedalboard, with everything from an adjustable input buffer to extensive MIDI support.

The larger G3 is centred around 12 passive true-bypass loops, which can be paired together for up to six stereo loops, or a combination of mono and stereo. These are controlled by 99 banks of presets, as well as a set of durable optical footswitches. There are 28 presets per bank, with each giving an absurd level of control over your signal chain. You can buffer, attenuate or boost the inputs to your effects with programmable pre-gain, and control the master volume of each preset with true-stereo programmable post-gain. Speaking of stereo, the two separate outputs feature isolated grounds, and allow for one to be phase reversed, so running a stereo rig is easily done. This also means the G3 can easily handle parallel effects and wet/dry rigs.

In the wake of more complicated workstation pedals, the MIDI support has been expanded – each preset can send up to 15 separate mappable PC and CC MIDI messages, alongside two expression pedal inputs for realtime CC message control.

To keep track of what’s going on, there’s a high-resolution TFT LCD screen, which displays your current bank and preset number/name as well as current pre and post-gain levels. On top of all of this, there’s Bluetooth connectivity – allowing you to use the G3 app to update firmware and beam setlists to your G3.

The Atom features all this, with a smaller form factor with six programmable true-bypass effects loops, each of which can be mono or stereo thanks to TRS connections.

Additionally, the G3 extension kit enables you to use a G3 to remotely control a set of loops and MIDI in/outs – meaning that you can keep your pedalboard behind your amp or similarly hidden from view, to keep a clean stage if needs be.

The other extension unit available is the G3 Hub, which allows up to 6 floor-controllers to be connected and all in sync. It fits in a 2U rack space and is designed so that a tech offstage has control alongside the artist on stage.
