Supro has shared a new video detailing the creation of the Keeley Custom 12, a combo guitar amp that was designed in collaboration with pedal-making wizard Robert Keeley.

In the video, Supro CTO Dave Koltai told of how the amplifier collaboration came about, saying it sprouted from a 15-year long friendship he forged with the Keeley Electronics founder.

“We first met at a summer NAMM Show and subsequently, I would always visit Robert’s booth at different trade shows and see the new pedals he was coming out with,” Koltai said. “And eventually, I gave him a call and asked if it would be possible for me to create an amp that he could be something he could use.”

Keeley praised the collaboration with the historic amp builders: “One of the super things about designing with [Dave] is that he is also a pedal designer, and he also loves amps, like I started before pedals. So put us together and we have the same passions; we like the same music.”

The video, titled Design and Development: The Making of the Keeley Custom 12, was released on Supro’s YouTube channel today (14 May). Watch it below:

At this year’s NAMM show, Supro unveiled the Delta King Combo, a retro-flavoured amplifier model that features 12AX7 tubes and that draws inspiration from the field-coil speakers used by amp builders as early as the 1920s.
