If you haven’t already made plans to head down to the upcoming Gardiner Houlgate guitar auction – 12 and 13 June in Corsham, Wiltshire – then you’d best hurry. Its catalogue is brimming with great finds, both electric and acoustic, including the two you see in the video above.
The acoustic model is a 1930s Kalamazoo KG-14 that features a completely reworked internal X bracing. But as you’ll hear, it still has a lovely vintage ring to it. Other mods on this guitar include an LR Baggs bridge pickup and a contemporary strap button. The hammer is expected to fall on this KG-14 at an estimated £600 to £1,000.
The two-tone smoke green electric, on the other hand, is a 1962 Gretsch 6118 Double Anniversary Model. Apart from its gorgeous original finish, the hollowbody guitar also features stock HiLo’Tron pickups and hardware, and is estimated to fetch between £1,200 and £1,800.
Listen to both guitars in the demo above.
