NAMM 2021: Zoom has announced the G6, its latest flagship floorboard unit, jam-packed with amp models and effects.

The unit takes after the brand’s previous multi-effects units, with some expanded features new for 2021. The LCD touchscreen, for instance, is now larger and allows for you to drag-and-drop modules into a virtual rig consisting of up to seven simultaneous effects and one amp model.

To get you started, the unit comes with 135 preloaded effects, as well as 70 preloaded impulse responses, all recorded with various mic placements and combinations. You can also load in up to 100 of your own custom impulse responses. Customisation continues with 140 premade patches and 100 user preset slots, each instantly loading one of the seven-effect one-amp virtual rigs.

For solo playing, the G6 comes loaded with 68 built-in rhythm patterns to play over, all in various genres and time signatures. Soloists can also make use of the new infinite looper, which allows for up to 256 loops with a two-hour max looping length when using an SD-Card, or 45 seconds without one.

The G6, like many multi-effect units, also functions as an audio interface for Mac and PC – meaning you can connect it to a DAW via USB and record your guitar sound straight away. The USB connection also lets you connect to Zoom’s guitar lab to download new amps, effects and patches. The Handy Guitar Lab IOS app can also connect via USB, and

Other I/O connections include a mono quarter-inch input, quarter-inch send-return jacks, left/mono/headphones and right quarter-inch outputs and an eighth-inch input jack. Hardware includes four rotary control knobs, six footswitches and an expression pedal.
