Gibson announces new Les Paul Player Plus Series
Your choice of BurstBucker Pros, mini-humbuckers or P-90s.
Gibson has unveiled a new Les Paul Player Plus Series, which comprises three US models available in three pickup configurations: BurstBucker Pros, mini-humbuckers and P90s.
Les Paul Classic Player Plus 2018
This variation features a set of P-90s that Gibson claims will “produce those historic tones and vibes you associate with classic Les Pauls from the past.” These offer high outputs blended with warm mids and robust trebles.
Les Paul Deluxe Player Plus 2018
While they may be petite in stature, the mini-humbuckers that sit on this model are unrivaled when it comes to bright tones. These are the go-to for a focused sound and an output that isn’t far off from the ’57 classics.
Les Paul Signature Player Plus 2018
The Signature model comes fitted with a pair of BurstBucker Pros, which are popular among those seeking vintage PAF tones. The Alnico V magnets used here provide the meatier, creamier tonal range that’ll suit most raucous genres, from blues to classic rock.
Apart from the pickups, the three models are virtually identical. Here’s a quick rundown of the other vital specs:
- Body: AA figured maple top with mahogany body
- Neck: Mahogany with 12-inch-radius Richlite fretboard
- Hardware: Tune-o-matic bridge with stop bar tailpiece
- Controls: Two “Volume” and “Tone” knobs and a three-way toggle switch
All three model variations are available in Satin Ocean Blue, Satin Vintage Sunburst and Wine Red Vintage finishes. They list for $1,999. More information at gibson.com.
