Fender has struck up an unlikely partnership with online apparel company Zappos to launch Strum For The Sole. It’s an opt-in wellness programme that helps Zappos staff unwind and hone their guitar chops.

As part of the initiative, Fender will fill Zappos’ Jam Room with gear, including guitars and basses from the Player, Vintera and California lines. Along with access to these instruments, Zappos employees will also be able to tap on the Fender Play app for bite-sized lessons.

“This programme is all about fostering creative energy and offering an alternative way to destress at home or in the office,” Bhawna Provenzano, Zappos’ Director of Employee Benefits and Diversity, said in a statement. “We believe that music could play a huge role in encouraging our employees to have a positive relationship with their mental, emotional, and overall health. It might be a little weird, but we know for sure it’ll be fun!”

Strum For The Sole will be monitored by Fender and Zappos over the next 12 months, with both companies aiming to explore the positive impacts that learning an instrument can have on Zappos employees.
