Gibson has relaunched its in-house Repair & Restoration (R&R) shop in Nashville, Tennessee. It serves as an extension of the Virtual Guitar Tech service that the guitar brand launched last May.

The services provided by Gibson R&R include basic set-ups, fret work, structural repairs, custom paint jobs and full restorations of old or damaged instruments. It also offers guitar valuations, certification and will also issue new warranties on certain vintage instruments.

Experts will first assess the condition of an instrument through a virtual consultation before advising customers on follow-up measures to take.

Gibson also isn’t limiting the service to just its own instruments, but “all types of guitar-like instruments from all brands”, the company said in a statement. It also offers free shipping and insurance, and will not charge customers until all costs have been finalised. It’s unclear, however, if these services will be limited to US customers.

According to Brand President Cesar Gueikian, the relaunch of Gibson’s R&R shop was 18 months in the making. “We’re excited to finally unveil it to the world,” he said in a statement. “Gibson R&R has organised the most knowledgeable guitar experts and it’s the ultimate destination for all repairs, restorations, modifications, valuations, and certifications.

“[It’s] the only shop that gives you the peace of mind that your guitars are getting the same level of experience, craftsmanship and care that you’d expect from Gibson.”
