An iconic guitar shop in Exeter, UK, is set to close for good after 31 years of trading and supplying guitars to world famous musicians.

Mansons Guitar Shop sold a variety of guitars, including custom made axes, to customers ranging from beginners to world class artists such as Matt Bellamy of Muse, John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters for its three decades of trade.

Sadly, due to its owner wanting to retire and not being able to find a new buyer due to the current economic climate, Mansons Guitar Shop will close its doors for a final time this June.

In a post on the store’s Facebook page, the closure was announced: “31 years ago, Hugh Manson, Adrian Ashton and Jay Henson met in a pub to discuss how they could come up with a plan to deliver the best guitar experience in the UK ,” it states.

“Hugh – legendary guitar maker, Adrian – Bass Institute of Technology graduate, and Jay with a degree in music and retail experience formed a business plan on the back of a beer mat. True story.

“31 years later after an incredibly successful journey through the music industry, remaining partners Hugh and Adrian have decided from February 1 that retirement from the shop now takes priority. We always wanted to be in control making such a monumental decision, and it’s a very hard decision to take whilst still trading successfully on the principles we set out all those years ago,” the post continues.

“However, with our lease expiring in June 2023, that time has arrived. We remain fully open with all our services operating across the coming months including repairs, but we will slowly wind each department down heading towards June. So thank you to all those that have worked here, purchased here or maybe even just dreamt here. The adventure was only complete with you all,” it concluded.

Manson told Devon Live: “One of the major aspects of the businesses is repairs and we are working out in what form that will continue locally. We have a phenomenal reputation for repairs for everyone from Joe Bloggs to Jimmy Page. Our repair service is second to none and we will publish details when we know how it will continue.”
