Janet D’Addario, the co-founder of the D’Addario company. and wife of Jim D’Addario, has died at the age of 72 from complications related to gallbladder cancer.

She met Jim D’Addario in 1966, and the pair would go on to perform together, and co-found D’Addario in 1973. She initially designed the company’s advertising and packaging design, before going on to become head of artist relations and co-found the D’Addario Foundation, which to this day provides music education to children who may not otherwise receive it.

Janet D’Addario was also associated with Providence House, a charity that provides transitional housing for homeless women and children. She served as a board member for 21 years and as its president from 2004 until 2019.

Jim D’Addario said of her work with the charity: “Providence House is, in so many ways, the very embodiment of my wife… when she saw pain, she wanted to ease it. When she saw hunger, she brought food. When she saw homelessness, she provided shelter. But most importantly when Janet saw someone with no hope, she worked hard to provide them with the tools to restore their will to overcome the challenges they were facing.”

The D’Addario family has asked that anyone wishing to pay their respects consider a donation to the charity. You can find out more at providencehouse.org.
