Close to 40 Universal Audio workers stationed at the company’s headquarters in Scotts Valley, California have been displaced by the ongoing wildfires in California.

Writing that several of its workers have lost their homes and possessions to the fires, UA set up a GoFundMe campaign to bring immediate relief to affected workers.

The company will be matching donations up to the campaign’s goal, which is set at $50,000. UA said in its GoFundMe description: “We’ve established this GoFundMe to provide immediate relief to all UA employees affected by this tragic event.”

“Any amount donated will be gratefully received and matched 100% by Universal Audio up to our goal. Funds will be distributed to affected employees within the next several weeks.”

According to the latest report from the California Department Of Forestry And Fire Protection (Cal Fire), the CZU and SCU Lightning Complex fires have been deemed to be 19 per cent, and 25 per cent contained, respectively.

The CZU Lightning Complex fire – which began 16 August – affects the counties of San Mateo and Santa Cruz. To date, 537 structures have been destroyed, 51 have been damaged and one fatality has been recorded.

The SCU Lightning Complex fire – which affects Santa Clara, Alameda and Stanislaus counties – also began on 16 August. Cal Fire reported a total of 31 structures destroyed, six structures damaged and five injuries.

Universal Audio’s GoFundMe campaign, which launched 25 August, has so far raised $27,860 at press time.

Expressing gratitude to its community for the donations received thus far, Universal Audio wrote:

“We remain strong, supportive, and hopeful for our friends and family — both within UA and in the larger community. Thank you for your support and generosity during these challenging times.”
