Mackie releases new portable, personal PA system
A lightweight, rechargeable mini PA for your busking or gigging needs.
Mackie’s got a gift for all gigging players out there. Its new FreePlay LIVE sound system is designed for musicians looking for a portable solution for busking, intimate gigs and other small performances. And it’s meant to deliver “crystal-clear, natural sounds,” according to the company.
The system packs in 150 watts of power, a six-inch woofer and two tweeters. And it’s all stuffed into a package that clocks in at just under nine pounds, 14 inches wide and under eight inches tall. It has a rechargeable battery that can run for up to 15 hours, offers full wireless control via your iOS or Android device, and can even double-up as a Bluetooth speaker.
Hook up your instruments or microphones to a pair of combo XLR/quarter-inch inputs, then download the FreePlay Connect app to control the mix, a three-band EQ (per channel) and reverb levels. Another quarter-inch balanced output lets you send your mix to another powered speaker or a mixer.
FreePlay LIVE is the largest of Mackie’s new FreePlay series of Bluetooth speakers, and is the only one that can be used as a proper PA.
