Magnetic Effects unveils the limited-edition Dual Drive

Featuring two iconic overdrives in one compact enclosure.

London-based pedal builder Magnetic Effects has announced the limited-edition Dual Drive, a two-in-one overdrive pedal that features two classic distortion circuits.

The Dual Drive combines a Tube Screamer- and a Rat-style overdrive into a single enclosure. Each effect can be used independently or combined for a raunchier tone. The control panel lists a user-friendly layout of volume-tone-gain controls for both effects and can be used to tailor the pedal’s sound accordingly.

The Tube Screamer-style overdrive boasts a simplified signal path for additional clarity, and has also been modded for asymmetrical clipping for a more ‘open’ sound and to provide more even-order harmonics. Meanwhile, the Rat side of the Dual Drive features the same asymmetrical clipping as its Tube Screamer counterpart, but features a more conventional tone control compared to the Pro Co original (turning it clockwise brightens the tone).

The Dual Drive can operate on 18V of power via an adapter for a punchier sound with more headroom. It also features true bypass switching and top-mounted jacks and DC socket to help save on pedalboard real estate.
