London-based Magnetic Effects has introduced a 2018 iteration of the White Atom, and it comes with a few cool new features. The most noticeable of the lot is the added active bass control, so the stompbox now has five knobs instead of the four on older models.

The new active bass control opens up even more tonal options when combined with the “Treble,” “Gain” and “Texture” knobs, the latter of which changes the response of the fuzz. Tweak them accordingly, and you’ll get anything from thick vintage dirt to saturated, Velcro-like sounds.

The White Atom achieves its range by starving its silicon and germanium transistors—so whether you’re looking to wail like Jimi Hendrix or crunch like Keith Richards, this stompbox has you covered.

There’s also good news for guitarists who like to tinker with multiple effects. The White Atom has a high-input impedance and a low-output impedance. This makes the fuzz box, unlike some of its peers, more compatible with buffered pedals, pedal switchers, and wireless systems.

The White Atom lists for GBP 125. More information on magneticeffects.net.
