NAMM 2020: In conjunction with Guitar Center, Martin Guitar has teamed up with Eric Clapton and John Mayer to release two ultra-limited acoustics: the 00042EC-Z and 0042JM-C Crossroads guitars.

Only 50 of each will be produced, and sales will benefit the Crossroads Centre in Antigua.

Eric Clapton 00042EC-Z

Co-designed by the guitar hero himself, this auditorium-sized guitar has a stunning Ziricote back and sides that contribute to its “deep, booming sound with a crisp treble response”, the Martin said. It has a VTS Sitka spruce top, with European flame maple binding its body, fretboard and headplate. Clapton’s signature and Style 42 snowflake inlays complete this model’s cosmetics.

Lists for $15,699.

John Mayer 0042JM-C

Like Clapton, Mayer co-designed his grand concert-sized acoustic, whose shape is reminiscent of parlour guitars from the late 1800s. The bluesman opted for a glossy Sitka spruce top with a warm amber burst, and cocobolo back and sides. A classic 42-style body, elegant fretboard inlays and binding and hand-fitted ring rosette inlay add to this model’s retro good looks.

Both guitars are part of Martin’s huge 2020 lineup. The new acoustics include two limited-edition stunners, three 16 Series instruments, and several updated models in the Modern Deluxe and X Series ranges.

Lists for $9,999.
