NAMM 2019: Mesa Boogie digs deep with new additions to Subway line-up
Namely, the WD-800 Bass Amp, three new Ultra-Lite bass cabinets, and the Plus Bass DI-preamp.

Mesa Boogie has freshened up its Subway collection with three additions: a compact WD-800 Bass Amp, three new Ultra-Lite bass cabinet configurations, and the powerful Plus Bass DI-preamp.
Here’s a brief overview of the latest Mesa gear:
Subway WD-800 Bass Amp
The Subway WD-800 Bass Amp is Mesa Boogie’s response to demand for a more powerful and portable version of its WalkAbout Bass Head.
This compact hybrid amp derives its sonic character from two components: the warm, soulful presence of the WalkAbout tube preamp section and a solid Class D output power section. The latter is also used in the line’s D-800 and D-800 Plus models.
Where appointments are concerned, the WD-800 boasts a semi-parametric EQ that allows you to precisely dial in preamp tone. It also comes with a high pass filter – the same component featured on the D-800 Plus – and a new Power Amp Damping control. The former governs sub-bass frequencies, while the latter selects between three power response options:
- Low: Produces a looser, relaxed tone reminiscent of tube power amps
- High: Tightens the low end, adds punch and accuracy in tracking
- Medium: Produces a blend of low and high power response options
Three new Ultra-Lite bass cabs

Joining the brand’s Ultra-Lite bass cab series are three new configurations: the 4×10, 2×12 and 2×15 vertical cabs. Like their contemporaries, these cabs are built from lightweight Italian poplar and are loaded with custom Subway neodymium speakers.
Subway Plus Bass DI-preamp
This compact but powerful hand-built unit takes its cues from the brand’s popular D-800 Plus Bass head and Bass DI-preamp. It retains the D-800 Plus’ two-band, semi-parametric midrange and interface potential, and is also equipped with an effects loop that bolsters outboarding options.
