A few weeks after launching its Russian Muff clone, Mistweaver Effects has thrown another stompbox into the ring: Forestry. It’s a modestly priced clone of the Dumble Overdrive Special, designed to produce the touch-responsiveness and tube-like tones of the mythical amp.

Forestry has two clipping modes: symmetrical and asymmetrical. The former uses NOS germanium diodes to create an organic overdrive that responds well to your pick attack. It’s a mode meant for smoother, quieter styles that require just a touch of gain. The asymmetrical mode, on the other hand, is better suited for heavier styles of rock, emulating the aggression and compression of a tube amp.

The stompbox has four fairly self-explanatory knobs: “Volume,” “Gain,” “Tone” and “Presence.” The latter dial controls the harmonic overtones that are being overdriven, essentially determining the amount of highs in the mix.
