AC/DC’s 17th and latest studio album PWR/UP has shot to number one in over 10 countries.

The album surged to the top of the charts in the UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Noway, Sweden, the US and, of course, the band’s home country of Australia.

In the UK, PWR/UP scored 62,000 chart sales in its first week – making it the fastest-selling album of 2020 so far, per Official Charts. The record now sits as the band’s third to reach number one in the UK, following 2015’s Black Ice and the seminal Back In Black from 1980.

In a statement, lead guitarist Angus Young expressed his gratitude to the band’s collaborators and loyal fans for the honour. “A very big thank you to everyone who put in their time, effort and creativity to get PWR/UP to Number 1!” he said. “Also a big shoutout to all our fans, old and new. You are, and always have been, our guiding inspiration”.

PWR/UP – which released 13 November – brought back the band’s Rock Or Bust line up, welcoming back frontman Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams. The 12-track album features musical ideas of rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who died in 2017 from dementia.
