An early sneak preview of Beatles: Get Back, Peter Jackson’s highly anticipated documentary on the Fab Four has been released. Watch it above.

Had it not been for COVID-19, Beatles: Get Back was slated to hit theatres 4 September of this year; production delays brought on by the pandemic have instead pushed the film’s release to 27 August 2021.

In a statement about the sneak preview, Jackson explained: “We wanted to give the fans of The Beatles all over the world a holiday treat, so we put together this five-minute sneak peek at our upcoming theatrical film The Beatles: Get Back. We hope it will bring a smile to everyone’s faces and some much-needed joy at this difficult time.”

Beatles: Get Back will centre around the Fab Four’s final year as a band, cut from 55 hours worth of footage shot in 1969, when the band were taking on their final studio album and film, Let It Be.

The film is also said to offer a positive counter-narrative to the original Let It Be film, which bared conflicts and arguments between band members. Never-before-seen footage, used heavily in Beatles: Get Back will instead show a lighter side to the Beatles’ final year together.

In a statement about the film, Paul McCartney said: “I am really happy that Peter has delved into our archives to make a film that shows the truth about The Beatles recording together. The friendship and love between us comes over and reminds me of what a crazily beautiful time we had.”
