Bonnie Raitt gave tribute to country and folk singer-songwriter John Prine over the weekend at the 2020 Grammy Awards. She performed his song Angel From Montgomery, originally taken from Prine’s 1971 self-titled album. However, Raitt’s version is possibly the best-known version of the song, appearing on her 1974 record Streetlights.
Last year saw Prine’s induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award this year. Prine’s most recent record, The Tree of Forgiveness was released in 2018, and was his first since 2005 to consist of an entirely original tracklist.
