Brian May has made a series of Instagram guitar tutorials while self-isolating amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest instalment goes over the classic Queen tune, Keep Yourself Alive. See the full Instagram post here:

To date, May has uploaded six of these videos, and is taking requests for more. In the fifth, he covered Last Horizon, an instrumental composition that remains a staple in his live shows. The fourth saw him breaking down the famed guitar solo in Bohemian Rhapsody.

“The one that probably was asked most of all was the solo that goes in the middle of that very complex tune written by Freddie [Mercury] called Bohemian Rhapsody

In the same video, May also revealed the gear he’s been using to make these “MicroConcertos”, describing his set up as “not very much, because I can’t get into my studio at the moment”. May adds that he is “taking the self-isolation thing very seriously as I think you have to in order for us to stand a chance of keeping this virus in check.”

His guitar is his signature Red Special taken “straight off the production line of Brian May Guitars”, coupled with a Vox Mini5 Rhythm five-watt modelling amp.

He also remarks that he’s been playing with his fingernails more these days in lieu of his signature sixpence pick.
