John Mayer pens heartfelt tribute to Chick Corea
Corea died at the age of 79 earlier this week.

John Mayer has paid tribute to legendary jazz keyboardist Chick Corea, who died on 9 February this year.
Corea was an incredibly celebrated musician, and across his more than five-decade career, he was instrumental in the creation of jazz fusion, especially as part of Miles Davis’ band in the 1960s.
Mayer took to Instagram to write a tribute to Corea, saying: “Chick Corea was the single greatest improvisational musician I have ever played with. Nobody was more open, more finely tuned to the moment, changing his approach with every new offering by the musicians around him. If you hit a wrong note, he’d immediately pick it up and play it as a motif so as to say ‘all of this has value, whether you see it or not.’
“What an immeasurable loss in so many ways. My love to Gayle, his family, and the countless musicians and fans he inspired and will continue to inspire. Thank you, Chick, for the invaluable scholarship of getting to know and make music with you. May you rest as peacefully as you lived.”

Mayer and Corea played together a number of times, You can see them perform together below, giving a rendition of After Midnight on the Late Night With Seth Meyers. Joining the John Mayer Trio and Corea are percussionist Manolo Badrena and trumpet player Wallace Roney.
