Standing In The Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan will be released on 21 May via BMG. The album consists of nine songs, with each having been recorded across the pandemic by Hynde herself. Her Pretenders bandmate James Walbourne also appears on the album.
According to a press release, the record was made “almost entirely by text message”, with Walbourne recording an initial idea on his phone and sending it to Hynde to add her vocals before the tracks were mixed by Tchad Blak.
According to Hynde, the inception of the album was kicked off by Walbourne sending her Murder Most Foul, a 17-minute song Bob Dylan released in March last year. The track was his first in eight years. “Listening to that song completely changed everything for me,” she said in a statement. “I was lifted out of this morose mood that I’d been in.”
Alongside the release of the album will be that of Tomorrow Is A Long Time, a new film documenting the recording process of the album. Directed by Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, Tomorrow Is a Long Time will also showcase filmed performances of all nine songs. It will air on Sky Arts on Monday, 24 May.
