Courtney Love has raised the issue of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s lack of women in a text to Dave Grohl.

In a Twitter and Instagram post shared on 11 March, Love shared a snapshot of a text message that she sent Dave Grohl, seemingly prior to Foo Fighters’ own induction in the Rock Hall in 2021, where she told him to “hold the seats of Tina Turner and Carole King, both who have been eligible for over 30! years each.”

Both Carol King and Tina Turner were only inducted into the Rock Hall in 2021.

Love was using the text to illustrate a thread from author and journalist Jessica Hopper, who was responding to an article titled ‘Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame celebrates women who rock’, writing: “Do they tho? 719 inductees to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, only 61 are women. That’s 8.48 per cent. C’mon @rockhall, it’s FUCKING GRIM BRO when yr doing worse than women-artists-on-country radio numbers (10 per cent) and women headliners at major music festivals (13 per cent).”

Hopper went on to share supporting evidence in the thread.

Hopper went on to explain the importance of being inducted to the Rock Hall in a follow-up tweet: “Lotsa folks going ‘yeah, but @rockhall is a boomer tomb, who cares,’ – Rock Hall induction = $$, ticket sales & the opportunities canonical-entry confers & it’s one of the only mechanisms that does *that* for veteran women artists, for all of it’s geriatric-boys club vibes”

Grohl recently went viral for his charitable works after he was spotted grilling for the homeless during California’s winter storm earlier this month. Grohl and his friends cooked over 500 meals for three shelters in LA, Hope the Mission director of development Grace Ancheta shared, adding that Grohl personally served the guests after cooking.
