Progressive metal guitarist and singer Devin Townsend is the first headliner to be announced for 2020’s Bloodstock festival.

The announcement comes after the release of Townsend’s latest album, Empath, which came out in March this year. It featured a broad, orchestral sound in comparison to the guitarist’s earlier, more industrial work. In 2018, Townsend announced that his band The Devin Townsend Project would be put on an indefinite hiatus.

Speaking to Bloodstock, Townsend confirmed that his set would span all aspects of his career – “playing the very best material for an outdoor festival from [his] entire catalogue, from SYL [Strapping Young Lad] up to Empath”.

Also announced for the festival so far are Vio‐lence, Sacred Reich, Skindred, The Black Dahlia Murder, Dark Tranquillity, Butcher Babies, Jinjer and Gloryhammer. Bloodstock 2020 will take place between Thursday 6 and Sunday 9 August 2020, in Derbyshire, UK.
