It’s important to note the battle will be a musical one.

Funk-soul legends Earth Wind & Fire are set to go head-to-head with the equally iconic Isley Brothers next month, as part of the new series of Verzuz.

Verzuz is a show that pits producers, songwriters and artists against each other in a rap battle style format on Instagram Live and Triller. Notably, this will be the first time two bands will compete on the Verzuz stage.

Competitors take it in turns playing a song from a list of 20 from their discography, as fans, friends and fellow artists watch on. A winner is later decided by Verzuz founders Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.

The announcement follows Verzuz’s acquisition by social media platform Triller. Part of this is Timbaland and Swizz Beatz joining a new Triller management team, overseeing musical events on the platform – such as the above battle between two soul legends. In a joint statement, the founders said: “to have partners in Triller who share our vision, specifically to celebrate and elevate the amazing artists who continue to shape culture around the world and give the consumer more direct access, is game changing.”

Last weekend, Wu-Tang Clan MCs Raekwon and Ghostface Killah also went head to head for the first Veruz to be streamed live through Triller following this recent deal.

The battle between Earth Wind & Fire and the Isley brothers will take place on 4 April, and be broadcast on Verzuz’s Instagram and Triller pages.
