Guitarist and singer Ed O’Brien, best known for his work in Radiohead, has released a video for his track Brasil. You can watch it above.

Brasil is from O’Brien’s upcoming (and as yet untitled) debut solo LP, which is set to arrive early next year.

The nearly nine-minute-long clip for the track, directed by Andrew Donoho, depicts an alien presence arriving on Earth, and the surreal, transcendental aftermath. The visuals are underscored by O’Brien’s subtle guitar work and vocals – with the track progressing to a hypnotic groove as the drums enter.

O’Brien said of the inspiration for the video: “H.P. Lovecraft, Kubrick, and Junji Ito have created some of my favourite sci-fi narratives. But I’ve always wanted to reinterpret their horrific premises into a more poetic and optimistic notion. What if an alien or higher being were to come to earth to help us achieve a greater existence, and not to destroy us? What would it look like if everyone on earth shared thoughts, experiences, and actions?”

“The theory that humans, as a species, actually represent one large, singular organism has always fascinated me, and I wanted to explore that concept visually through a variety of different character perspectives, mediums, and impressionistic visual effects. All these layers and ideas culminated into our narrative for Brasil.”
