Keyboardist David Garfield has dug into the archives for a collaboration of his with guitar legend Eddie Van Halen: a cover of the Jimi Hendrix track If 6 Was 9. You can take a listen below.

The track comes from Garfield’s latest EP, Guitar Heroes OTB, Vol. 1. Singing and playing guitar alongside Garfield and Van Halen is Michael Landau – they are joined by Will Lee on bass and Simon Phillips on drums.

The track was recorded all the way back in 1996, with most parts being laid down at Chick Corea’s Mad Hatter Studios. Eddie Van Halen’s overdubs were recorded at his own 5150 Studios.

Being an extended version, the psychedelic track clocks in at over eight minutes. Other guitarists featured on the EP include George Benson and Steve Lukather.
