Electro-Harmonix has announced a new take on the expression pedal format, the Cntl Knob.

The unit, unlike a traditional expression pedal, does not feature a foot rocker. Instead, the face of the pedal sports two knobs. Each can be set at a certain position mimicking a foot rocker position, with fully anti-clockwise being the heel position and fully clockwise being the toe position. Pressing the footswitch will toggle between the two positions of the respective knobs.

While it may lack the ‘sweep’ ability of a rocker, this means that you can easily switch between two ‘sweet spot’ settings of, for example, delay time. For pedals that let you change between two presets with an expression pedal, the Cntl Knob functions as a quick way to access two different settings without having to reach down and twiddle knobs.

Another advantage is space-saving: the pedal’s small footprint will integrate much easier into mini pedalboard setups that a full-sized expression pedal.

To make sure Cntl Knob works with as many pedals as possible, it’s equipped with a TRS+/- button that lets you match expression polarity with the device being controlled. EHX also ship it with a six-foot TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) cable to get you started.

The Cntl Knob lists for $39.99. Find out more at ehx.com. For more gear news, click here.
