A set of artists have come together to record an Elliott Smith cover album, entitled Everybody Cares. All proceeds from the album will go to the LGBTQ+ charities AKT, The Audre Lorde Project and GIRES.

The record was organised by the podcast My Favourite Elliott Smith Song, alongside live session production company La Blogothèque. Artists featured on the album include Oceanator, EVIL, Martin Courtney (Real Estate), Marissa Nadler, Blaenavon, Francis Lung, Kevin Devine, Christian Lee Hutson, Lionlimb and Keep Dancing Inc. They’ve donated covers of Elliot Smith songs such as Wouldn’t Mama Be Proud, Everything Reminds Me Of Her and In The Lost & Found.

Smith released five albums across his short but celebrated career, with 2004’s From A Basement On The Hill being released posthumously. Smith died in 2003.

The cover album follows a charity concert of the same name that took place last year and raised over £1500 for the same group of charities.

You can learn more about AKT, a UK charity that provides safe housing for young LGBTQ+ homeless people, here, the Audre Lorde Project, a New York-based community centre for LGBTQ+ people, here, and GIRES, a foundation that aims to educate and raise awareness of issues related to gender identity, here.

The album is available to purchase via the project’s Bandcamp page for $7 or more.
