Glastonbury Festival has been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The news comes after organisers Michael and Emily Eavis announced that they were doing the best they could to hold the festival. Many other festivals such as Coachella and SXSW have been affected by the outbreak, but this is the first major UK festival to cancel.

Michael and Emily Eavis shared the sad news via Twitter, writing: “We are so sorry to announce this, but we are going to have to cancel Glastonbury 2020. Tickets for this year will roll over to next year.

In the full statement, the pair expressed gratitude for all the volunteers and crew who were due to put the festival together. They also noted that while by the time of the actual festival, the measures may have been lifted – but during the preparatory period, they’d still be unable to put the festival together with the huge numbers of staff gathering on-site.

The big names in this year’s roster include Paul McCartney, Thundercat, Manic Street Preachers, Thom Yorke, Cate Le Bon and The Big Moon. It’s not known whether the core lineup is set to change between now and 2021.
