Jason Mamoa has revealed his passion for music and playing guitar in a recent interview. In it, he talks of how his mother first started his passion for music, but when he was growing up, he “couldn’t afford any of this kind of stuff,” he says, gesturing at the walls of guitars that surround him. The interview takes place in New York’s Rivington Guitars – a locale chosen by Momoa himself.

He went on to reveal that his time on the set of Stargate: Atlantis (Stargate‘s Ronan Dex was one of his first major TV roles) was when his passion for blues guitar “all kicked off.” In a 2018 interview with Metal Hammer he revealed that his portrayal of characters was often inspired by heavy metal songs.

Momoa also rips into a slide lick on a Goldtop P90-equipped Gibson Les Paul at the start of the video. The interview, conducted by MTV, also delves into Momoa’s roles in Game of Thrones and the DC Extended Universe, as well as his new show See. Watch it below.
