A new documentary is on the way about Jimi Hendrix’s eventful visit to Maui
Jimi Hendrix In Maui arrives in November, accompanied by a live album.
A brand-new feature-length documentary entitled Music, Money, Madness . . . Jimi Hendrix In Maui is set to be released this November, alongside an accompanying live album Live In Maui. Take a look at a featured full performance of Voodoo Child (Slight Return) above.
The film documents Hendrix’s eventful visit to Maui, and how he and the Jimi Hendrix Experience became involved with the ill-fated film Rainbow Bridge, thanks to their controversial manager Michael Jeffrey.
The documentary tracks how director Chuck Wein, desperate to feature Hendrix in some capacity within the strange film, devised a plan to film a free Jimi Hendrix concert to include. Word of the event led a few hundred curious Maui locals to the Baldwin cattle ranch in Olinda where a makeshift stage was constructed and the audience was arranged by their astrological signs.
The Blu-ray will include the full documentary as well as bonus features featuring all of the existing 16mm colour film shot of the two performances that afternoon mixed in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound. The audio has been restored and mixed by longtime Hendrix engineer Eddie Kramer.
The film arrives with the accompanying live album, featuring both performances on either two CDs or three LPs alongside the BluRay.
