This month, PBS will show Brown Eyed Handsome Man, a film collating notable covers of and performances by Chuck Berry. The film is set to air on 29 February.

The performances showcased go all the way back to the 60s, including the Beatles’ performance of Roll Over Beethoven and The Rolling Stones’ Around and Around, both from 1964. More recent performances are included, such as Jeff Lyne and ELO performing Roll Over Beethoven in 2017.

Jimi Hendrix’s 1970 rendition of Johnny B. Goode, Paul McCartney’s 1999 cover of Brown Eyed Handsome Man and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 2011 version of Carol are also included. The film doesn’t just collate covers, also showcasing a number of solo and full-band performances from Berry himself – as well as footage of his performances alongside Linda Ronstadt, Keith Richards, and Bruce Springsteen.

Read our interview with the legend’s son, Charles Berry Jr, where he discusses his father’s songwriting, his various guitars and his long-lasting legacy.
