Joe Bonamassa’s next album will be a “subway” record put together in New York City
The stripped-back blues affair will rely on minimal gear and the urbanscape of NYC.

Joe Bonamassa has offered early details on his next blues adventure: a “subway” record based in New York City, with sessions planned for early next year.
The upcoming record will be the bluesman’s 15th studio album and the follow-up to the recently released Royal Tea, his English blues record tracked at historic Abbey Studio Studios.
A handful of tunes Bonamassa decided to leave off Royal Tea, for not fitting with the British blues style, will be further expanded upon for his upcoming record.
“There’s a whole bunch of songs that didn’t make this record purely because they didn’t sound British enough,” he said. “They’re actually really good songs, they just wouldn’t fit this record, and would have sounded out of place.”
“So we’re going to revisit those and write some new stuff for a record we’ll record in New York, and my concept is ‘subway rigs’,” he said. “So that’s no cartage, no road cases, just do what I used to do 20 years ago – a gigbag, with a Strat or a Les Paul, and a brown Deluxe or a Deluxe Reverb, and you go with what you’ve got!”
“Making a record like that really tests the songs – when your palette of instruments isn’t infinite!”
This year also saw Bonamassa launch a brand new signature Les Paul Custom model with Epiphone based on his very own ‘58 Gibson Black Beauty – just one of the many gems in Bonamassa’s astonishing collection.
