Joe Satriani has launched a new live streamed series called Club Joe. The first episode live streamed earlier today (5 May) on Satriani’s YouTube and Facebook – where the guitarist took questions from fans in the comments section. Take a look above.

The series kicked off with an episode detailing the guitar virtuoso’s Grammy nominated album from 1992, The Extremist. Satriani provided a retrospective look at the album – discussing the numerous instruments used on the record and the intricacies of working in the studio with legendary producer Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Van Halen).

During the live stream, veteran session musicians Matt and Gregg Bissonnette – who served as the rhythm section of Satriani’s recording band at the time – also made guest appearances on the stream to share stories about the recording process.

Satriani hinted that the next instalment of the series – which is planned to arrive in two weeks – will discuss his work with supergroup Chickenfoot, which consists of former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, as well as Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer Chad Smith.
