Joey Kramer has returned to Aerosmith this week, playing with the band during their recent shows in Las Vegas
His appearance back behind a kit comes after he was involved in a legal disagreement with the band, accusing his bandmates of unjustifiably disallowing him from performing with them at this year’s Grammys.
However, shortly after the ruling came to light, the group released a statement that put his delayed return down to logistics, saying: “Aerosmith responded to Kramer’s suit by saying that there was not enough time for the drummer to rehearse and rejoin the band for their Grammys performance, but could still appear alongside them nonetheless.
“Joey has now waited until the last moment to accept our invitation, when we unfortunately have no time for necessary rehearsals during Grammys week. We would be doing a disservice to him, to ourselves, and to our fans to have him play without adequate time to prepare and rehearse.”
The residency show that saw Kramer’s return began like any other, until frontman Steven Tyler announced: “on the drums, Mr. Joey Kramer,” to cheers from the crowd. The band then launched into Let the Music Do the Talking. You can watch the performance below:
Aerosmith’s Las Vegas residency runs until 4 June. They have also announced a huge 50th anniversary show in Boston, taking place on 18 September this year.
