John Frusciante performs with Red Hot Chili Peppers for the first time since reunion
The guitarist returns to the fold.

John Frusciante has performed with Red Hot Chili Peppers for the first time since their reunion, taking the stage together at a Tony Hawk Foundation memorial for Andrew Burkle. Watch it here:

Frusciante joined bandmates Anthony Kiedis and Flea, supported by Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins – sitting in for Chad Smith – to perform fan favourite Give It Away, as well as covers of Iggy Pop’s I Wanna Be Your Dog and Gang of Four’s Not Great Men. He also joined Jane’s Addiction for the band’s hit Mountain Song, playing alongside one time RHCP guitarist Dave Navarro.
The memorial, organised by the Tony Hawk Foundation, was held for the late Andrew Burkle, the son of billionaire venture capitalist Ron Burkle. In a tribute Instagram post, Tony Hawk wrote about how Andrew and his family have been instrumental in the foundation’s fundraising efforts.
“Today we celebrated the life of Andrew Burkle,” Hawk wrote. “He was a beloved son, friend and brother to the lucky ones that surrounded him. Because of him, @tonyhawkfoundation had landmark fundraising events in Beverly Hills for 10 years in a row and I am forever grateful for his support in our mission.”

In December, it was announced that Frusciante would rejoin RHCP’s line-up, ten years after he left and was replaced by Josh Klinghoffer. It was recently also revealed that Frusciante had been working with Flea on a Gang Of Four tribute album not long before Gang of Four’s guitarist Andy Gill’s passing.
