After teasing the arrival of more details and music this Friday, John Mayer has officially announced a new album entitled Sob Rock, to be released on 16 July.

He announced the album on social media, with a minimalistic caption consisting of only the album’s title and release date.

Alongside the post on Instagram, a new website (sobrock.net) has gone live asking fans to sign up for updates. “We can’t tell you whose album it is yet,” the website reads, above the copyright notice for “John Mayer Enterprises.”

The announcement is the most concrete detail Mayer has revealed about his new record, although over the last few months he has been keeping fans updated as to its progress.

Last month, Mayer took to an Instagram story to tell fans: “I know many of you have been waiting patiently for my next album. I assure you it’ll all fire up very soon. I’ll put it like this: every day you have to go without my new music is another day I can work harder to make sure it gets heard by as many people as might enjoy it.”

He added: “I hope you’ll think it’s worth the wait.”

Sob Rock will follow Mayer’s last record The Search For Everything, which was released on 14 April 2017.
