John Mayer has previewed a single for his forthcoming album in two clips on TikTok.

Mayer shared the first preview yesterday (22 March) on TikTok, which was accompanied by a short video of him “chumming it up” with a pair of dogs. “Choo choo here comes new music,” Mayer wrote in its caption. Take a listen below:

The second clip, which arrived earlier today (23 March), showed Mayer at a photoshoot – possibly for the new album. “I have no idea how much new music to share,” Mayer mused in his video caption. “The label says sharing clips is good. But who can vibe out to just eight bars of music?”

“So I think I’ll keep posting clips until they say stop. Set ‘em up let’s play,” he wrote.

As noted by fans who commented on the clips, the song has a strong 80s connection, particularly to the music of such artists as Toto, Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel.

“Feels like a song that would play in an 80s film. I mean that in the best way possible,” wrote one fan. Another wrote: “I’m sensing Phil Collins vibes from this album.”

Mayer broke the news about his upcoming album on Sunday (21 March) – again on TikTok. Revealing that the as-yet-untitled album was ready for release, he shared a post captioned: “My album is recorded, mixed and mastered. I’ve just been chilling and sharing it with friends for the past couple of months.”

The new studio album will be Mayer’s first in almost four years, following 2017’s The Search For Everything.
