In a follow-up tweet, she further clarifies that although her husband is now in stable condition, it “is not the same as improving”.

John Prine was hospitalised on 26 March following a “sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms”. Three days later, he was reported to be in critical condition by his family in a Facebook post.

Since his hospitalisation, the two-time cancer survivor has received a number of musical-tributes and well wishes from friends and peers in the industry.

Folk icon Joan Baez recently shared a performance of Prine’s Hello In There. In her video she addressed Prine directly. “John, this song I have sung of yours has been one of the most requested songs in my repertoire for over 40 years.” she says, “let me sing it to you and send [it] along with my best wishes and prayers”.

COVID-19 recently claimed the lives of country legend Joe Diffie, and veteran musician Alan Merrill.
