Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon – better known as Johnny Rotten – believes Donald Trump is the “only hope” for the working class in the US.

Lydon, who holds British, American and Irish citizenship and has lived in California since the 80s, made his comments in an interview segment on Good Morning Britain, where he also backed Trump vie to capture the White House for a second term.

“I’m working-class English, it makes complete sense to me to vote for a person who talks about my kind of people,” he said, per Yahoo UK.

“The media in America […] they tow the line of the Democratic Party with the assumption they know best but they don’t know nothing about say, blue-collar workers, Latinos, African-Americans in or outside of large cities,” he added.

Lydon added that Trump “never claimed to be” a politician. “How unusually, exceptionally wonderful is that for people like me, working-class people,” he said. “We are bored of your intellectual left-wing ideas we can’t take much more of you. You talk such twaddle… you just miss the point of who the general population are.”

“[The system] does nothing for these people and that’s why they now support him so loyally. Because he’s the only hope. You can call him a narcissist, you can call him nasty but he’s the only hope.”

Votes for the 2020 US election are still being counted. At press time, Democratic candidate Joe Biden is narrowly leading at the polls, according to The New York Times
