Last month, Tool guitarist Adam Jones made his podcast debut on Talk Is Jericho to discuss Fear Inoculum and guitar influences. Bandmate Justin Chancellor has now followed suit as a guest on the inaugural episode of Ernie Ball’s Striking A Chord podcast series.

In the 52-minute episode, Chancellor engaged in a wide-ranging conversation which covered topics such as Tool’s creative process and the band’s recent experience with releasing material digitally.

The bassist also shared the ingredients that go into his clear bass tone. “This time, I had two direct signals. One that had all the effects, so it hit the DI and went through all the effects. The other one missed all the effects,” Chancellor said.

Also covered in the podcast were the events that led up to Chancellor joining Tool. The bassist revealed that he initially turned down the band’s audition call, only to call them back later, after being convinced by his brother to give it a shot.

As mentioned earlier, Chancellor is the first guest on Striking A Chord, a new bi-monthly podcast series hosted by Ernie Ball brand ambassador Evan Ball. Upcoming episodes will feature Matt McJunkins (A Perfect Circle), Jason Richardson (All That Remains) and Gretchen Menn (Zepparella).
