Kiko Loureiro has shared the first song taken from his upcoming Open Source solo album. EDM (e-Dependent Mind) was released with an accompanying music video. Take a look and listen above.

In the song, Loureiro was accompanied by former Angra comrades, Felipe Andreoli on bass and Bruno Valverde on drums.

Open Source is to be the Brazilian virtuoso’s fifth solo record – written largely during 2019 between commitments as Megadeth’s lead guitarist. Unlike Loureiro’s other solo efforts, Open Source won’t be tied to a record label, instead receiving its funding through an Indiegogo campaign.

Like the album’s title implies, there will be an “open source” aspect to the record; Loureiro explained that he will be releasing “all the backing tracks, all the isolated tracks” from his album for free; eager to hear different interpretations and even “better versions” of his songs as they “evolve in the hands of others.”

“You can do whatever you want with my songs,” Loureiro explained in his Indiegogo campaign video. “That’s the beauty of collaboration; that’s the beauty of communities created with all the available technologies we have today today and i think music should take full advantage of this. because in the end music connects people”.

Elsewhere in his campaign video, Loureiro also mentioned that the upcoming album will feature several special guests, a surprise that has yet to be revealed.
