Listen: IDLES share Mr. Motivator, the first single from their upcoming studio album

British rock band IDLES have released a new single entitled, Mr. Motivator. The anthemic tune supplies the first taste of an upcoming studio album from the band. Accompanying the release of Mr. Motivator is a workout-themed music video, which features footage of fans and the band members themselves exercising. Take a look above.
A statement on the song was shared on Partisan Records’ website, describing the “battering ram of positivity” that is Mr. Motivator:
“The song doubles down on the (self-admitted) sloganeering and social commentary that’s become the band’s signature, yet here more than ever they’re able to take clichés and turn them into music that’s deeply complex and brutally relevant.”
Joe Talbot, vocalist for IDLES shared an accompany message to Mr. Motivator, expounding on the song’s significance on the upcoming album, as well as its relevance amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We want to start this journey with a means to not only encapsulate the album’s sentiment, but to encourage our audience to dance like no one is watching and plough through these dark times with a two tonne machete of a song and the most beautiful community of scumbags ever assembled. Let’s go. All is love.”
IDLES’ last album, Joy As An Act Of Resistance was released in 2018, the band’s first with Partisan Records. Their upcoming album has yet to be named officially, though it was reported to be in the post-production phase since last December, as Talbot revealed to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1.
“We’ve got a new album, it’s being mixed right now in your city [London] actually,” Talbot said, “The producers we’ve got [are] Nick Launay and Adam ‘Atom’ Greenspan and we’ve got another guy I don’t know if I’m supposed to mention him. Kenny Beats. I’m gonna get in so much trouble, man.”
