Made From Melbourne celebrates the city’s music community with guitar made from iconic venues

A guitar made from the timber of some of Melbourne’s most iconic music venues has been created to celebrate the city’s music community. The Made In Melbourne project will be the subject of a documentary premiering this Saturday (24 April).

The guitar is a one-of-a-kind Maton MM3000 – a variant of the BB1200 – that gets its neck from the Cherry Bar, its back from the Corner Hotel, internals from the Hotel Esplanade and body from the Tote Hotel.

“[It’s] infused with the blood, sweat and spilt beers of Melbourne’s live music scene and stands as an enduring symbol of the importance venues have in building a thriving music community,” a statement for the project wrote.

The Made In Melbourne project is backed by the Support Act, a charity dedicated to bringing crisis relief services to artists and other music workers. Its other supporters include renowned Mushroom Records and its late founder Michael Gudinski, an Australian music industry legend credited to signing some of the country’s best acts.

Once launched, the guitar will get to call a number of Melbourne’s venues and studios home as an instrument for local and visiting artists to play.

Meanwhile, the documentary on the Made In Melbourne project, created in partnership with director Matt Weston, will feature some of the city’s most celebrated musicians, including Adalita and Tim Rogers. Its proceeds will be directed to the Support Act.
