Mateus Asato has made a guest appearance on Canadian singer-songwriter Renforshort’s latest track, providing a blazing hot solo on a cover of the Gorillaz classic Feel Good Inc.

Asato’s brief but intense solo – which kicked off at the 2:17 mark of the track – squeezed in an array of techniques, from octave chord play and spicy pentatonic licks to tremolo picking and more. Listen to it below:

Renforshort first came to prominence with the release of her debut single Waves in February 2019. Her second, Mind Games was a viral hit and got nominated for the prestigious SOCAN Songwriting Prize in 2019.

In a statement on her latest track, the 18-year-old songwriter explained how she decided to cover the 2005 classic Feel Good Inc. from the Gorillaz.

“Trying to find a cover to release was one of the more time-consuming things I have done,” she said. “We were going through basically every artist that I loved and couldn’t figure it out, but for some reason, at that moment I just forgot about Gorillaz”.

She continued: “It was settled that I was going to cover Feel Good Inc. It was really hard to get right because it’s a pretty rappy song and I’m not a rapper, so I spent a lot of time trying to put together an arrangement but I’m so happy with how it turned out.”

Meanwhile, Mateus Asato has stayed busy this year with a number of things. In October, he made an exclusive guest appearance on the first edition of Guitar.com Live. He also teamed up with Jackson Audio on a signature drive pedal, the El Guapo.
