Metallica, through its All Within My Hands Foundation (AWMH), has announced a second donation towards five COVID-19 relief organisations – this time of $295,000.

Following up from the band’s prior donation of $350,000, the list of grantees – which include Feeding America, Direct Relief, Live Nation’s Crew Nation and the Bartender Emergency Assistance Program – has now grown to include MusiCare’s COVID-19 relief fund.

On the AWMH website, the band issued a statement to thank fans for making contributions during the band’s Metallica Monday events and its Month Of Giving initiative. They wrote:

“We are truly overwhelmed by the generosity of fans and friends around the world as many continue to face unimaginable challenges in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.”

Another one of Metallica’s efforts to raise awareness on COVID-19 is the Heroes Of The Day Instagram hashtag, which launched earlier this year. The initiative was started as a means for the band to recognise and spotlight essential workers, from first responder and healthcare workers to food bank volunteers, grocers, delivery drivers, and restaurant workers.

In other Metallica news, drummer Lars Ulrich recently revealed that the band have been working on new music while in lockdown. During an interview with Swedish talk show host Fredrik Skavlan, Ulrich was asked if a “quarantine album” is on the way, to which he divulged, “I would say yes, on the way.”
