Metallica have invited fans to duet along in a series of TikTok videos teasing what looks to be a new song from their upcoming album, 72 Seasons.
The first video — uploaded a couple days ago — features Lars Ulrich laying down a drumbeat with the caption “duet this” while the second one has Robert Trujillo following instructions, joining in with his bass on the other half of the screen.
Today’s clip, as you’d probably expect, adds to the dueting fun with James Hetfield playing a little riff along to his bandmates’ parts. It’s safe to assume that Kirk Hammett will appear in the next video, which should be posted tomorrow.
For the uninitiated, the videos play on a popular TikTok trend where users superimpose a clip of themselves to the side of the original video. And just in case nothing in that sentence made sense to you, here’s Metallica showing you exactly how it works:

Many are convinced that the videos are Metallica’s way of promoting their upcoming new single, which will count as the third track (following Lux Æterna and Screaming Suicide) they’ve released from 72 Seasons.
Fans on TikTok have also gone to town with the invitation to “duet this”, offering their very own unique (and hilarious) accompaniments to the song.
Check out some of them below.
